Crocheted boxing gloves

Welcome back to the blog, my crafty friends! Today, we are tackling a fun, unique, and deeply symbolic little project: crocheted boxing gloves. While they aren’t meant for a real ring, these soft, adorable miniatures make fantastic decorative pieces, meaningful gifts, keychains, or spirited nursery décor. They blend the tough motivation of sports culture with the cozy comfort of handmade yarn.

Whether you’re crafting a motivational desk accessory for a friend or adding a sporty touch to a handmade mobile, these little gloves work up surprisingly fast and use up very little yarn stash. Let’s grab our hooks and dive right into the pattern!

Materials & Tools Needed

  • Medium-weight (Worsted / #4) yarn in your choice of color (traditional red, black, or your favorite team colors)
  • Matching crochet hook (recommend a size G/4.0mm or slightly smaller than yarn label suggests for tight, sturdy stitches)
  • Polyfill fiberfill for stuffing
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Stitch marker

Abbreviations & Pattern Notes

  • US Terminology
  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (work 2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec: decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • Note: The glove body is worked in continuous rounds without joining. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the first stitch of each round.

Step-by-Step Pattern Instructions

  1. Main Glove Body: Starting at the top/front of the glove, ch 2. Work 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. (6 sts)
  2. Round 2: Work [inc] in each st around. (12 sts)
  3. Round 3: [Sc in next st, inc in next st] repeat around. (18 sts)
  4. Rounds 4–7: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
  5. Round 8 (Thumb Opening): Sc in next 6 sts, ch 3, skip 3 sts (thumb hole created), sc in remaining 9 sts. (18 sts total including chains)
  6. Rounds 9–10: Sc in each st and ch around. (18 sts)
  7. Round 11: [Sc in next st, dec] repeat around. (12 sts)
  8. Stuff the glove firmly with polyfill.
  9. Round 12 (Wrist Cuff): Work [dec] around. (6 sts). Switch to cuff color if desired, and work sc in each st for 2–3 rounds to form the wristband. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for closing.
  10. Thumb: Attach yarn to the edge of the thumb hole. Sc around the 3 skipped chains and the base, working 5–6 sc total for 2 rounds. Stuff lightly, fasten off, and weave in ends.

Finishing & Helpful Tips

  • Maintain Tight Tension: Use a smaller hook than recommended for your yarn weight to prevent the fiberfill stuffing from showing through the gaps.
  • Sculpting the Shape: Use your fingers to gently massage and shape the polyfill inside the glove so the rounded front and thumb sit just right.
  • Add Details: Use a contrasting yarn color to stitch a quick lace zigzag across the wrist cuff for an authentic boxing glove look.
  • Versatile Finishing: Attach a small keyring loop to the top of the cuff if you want to turn your finished boxing gloves into a sporty keychain!
