About This Creation

This comprehensive project is a technical marvel that serves as a show-stopping centerpiece. The central engineering triumph is the massive carrot-shaped market wagon, which features a hollow cavity to hold miniature crates, paper bags, and four individual woven baskets brimming with handmade produce.

To anchor the scene, we are populating our market with characters designed around the viral baby schema aesthetic: a chubby hamster merchant with prominent, exaggerated jowls and a wide-eyed helper bunny. The entire scene rests on a structured, grassy base mat complete with an individual crocheted cobblestone path, a blooming flower trellis, towering sunflowers, and a rustic perimeter fence.

The Pattern

The Large Green Base Mat

Using 2.5mm hook and Meadow Green yarn. Work in rows. Ch 1 at the end of rows does not count as a stitch.

Row 2 – 45: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. (60)

Fasten off and weave in ends. Cut a piece of plastic canvas or heavy cardboard slightly smaller than this rectangle and glue or sew it to the underside to keep the terrain completely flat.

Cobblestones (Make 12 Varied)

Using 2.0mm hook and Light Beige/Tan yarn. Worked in rounds around a foundation chain.

Round 1: Ch 6, inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, 4 sc in last ch. Working along opposite side of chain: sc in next 3 ch, inc in last ch, sl st to join. (14)

Assembly & Scene Embellishments

✨ Sew the flat market sign using dark brown yarn and stitch “Carrot Market” onto it with white thread. Secure it to a small mini-crate next to the hamster.

✨ Construct the back fence and trellis by creating wire outlines, wrapping them carefully in tan yarn, and sewing crocheted pink and yellow flowers to the vines.

✨ Arrange your characters and baskets beautifully onto the display mat, ensuring the hamster is proudly standing on the stone path holding his tiny market bag.
