Materials & Tools Needed
- Lightweight (Sport or DK weight) cotton yarn in white and black
- Small amount of black embroidery floss or crochet thread for facial details
- Matching crochet hook (recommended size: 2.5mm or 3.0mm)
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
Abbreviations & Pattern Notes
- US Terminology
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- inc: single crochet increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
- dec: single crochet decrease (sc 2 together)
- sl st: slip stitch
- st(s): stitch(es)
- Note: The bookmark is worked flat or in small shaped sections to create the recognizable silhouette. Keep your tension firm so the bookmark stays neat and durable.
Step-by-Step Pattern Instructions
- Head & Snout (White Yarn): Start with a magic ring. Work 6 sc into the ring; join with a sl st to the first sc (6 sts).
- Round 2: Work an inc in each st around (12 sts).
- Round 3–5: Work 1 sc in each st around (12 sts). Fasten off white yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Ears (Make 2 in Black Yarn): Ch 4. Starting in the second ch from the hook, work 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc. Fasten off, leaving a tail to attach to the head.
- Body/Bookmark Strip (White Yarn): Attach white yarn to the bottom of the head base. Ch 35 (or adjust chain length to fit your preferred book size).
- Working down the chain, starting in the second ch from the hook, work 1 sc in each ch back to the base. Fasten off and secure securely.
Finishing & Helpful Tips
- Use your black embroidery thread to carefully stitch Snoopy’s signature button nose and closed eye lines onto the head.
- Securely attach the black floppy ears to the sides of the head using your yarn needle.
- Weave in all loose yarn ends cleanly so your bookmark sits flat inside your book pages.
- Choose 100% cotton yarn because it is smooth, durable, and won’t stretch out of shape with frequent page-turning.
