A warm welcome back to the atelier. It is I, Patricia. We are about to embark on a beautiful construction. I have examined the structural needs of our little harvest friend and translated those soft curves and delightful accessories into precise mathematics.
This project requires a mindful approach to tension, especially when working the asymmetrical cheek expansions. Trust the numbers, respect the yarn, and watch as personality emerges from the stitches.
About This Creation
The Harvest Carrot Cat is a masterclass in proportion and plush texture. By utilizing a super-bulky chenille yarn, we achieve a fabric that is dense yet incredibly soft. The architecture of this piece relies heavily on the “Baby Schema”—a large, dominant head paired with a stout, pear-shaped body. We bypass perfect spheres in favor of localized shaping, expanding the lower face to create irresistible, chubby cheeks. The removable carrot bucket hat and miniature crossbody bag elevate the figure from a simple toy to a crafted character.

The Pattern
The Legs (Make 2)
We begin at the base to ensure a seamless foundation.
➡️ Round 1: With White yarn, work 6 sc into a MR. (6)
➡️ Round 2: [inc] in every stitch around. (12)
➡️ Round 3: sc in each stitch around. (12)
➡️ Round 4: Change to Tan yarn. sc in each stitch around. (12)
➡️ Round 5: sc in each stitch around. (12)
Fasten off the first leg. Do not fasten off the second leg. We will proceed directly into the body union.
The Body
The body expands rapidly to form a chubby base. For the belly, we will utilize a simple color-block technique mid-round. (T) indicates Tan yarn, (W) indicates White yarn.
➡️ Round 6: Ch 3 from the second leg. Join to the first leg with a sc. Work 11 more sc around the first leg. Work 3 sc along the chain. Work 12 sc around the second leg. Work 3 sc along the opposite side of the chain. (30)
➡️ Round 7: [4 sc, inc] x 6. (36)
➡️ Round 8: [5 sc, inc] x 6. (42)
➡️ Round 9: [6 sc, inc] x 6. (48)
➡️ Round 10 to Round 12: Work 19 sc (T), 10 sc (W), 19 sc (T). (48)
➡️ Round 13: Work [6 sc, dec] x 2 in (T), 1 sc (T). Work 5 sc, dec, 1 sc in (W). Work 5 sc, dec, [6 sc, dec] x 2 in (T). (42)
➡️ Round 14: Work 16 sc (T), 8 sc (W), 18 sc (T). (42)
➡️ Round 15: Work [5 sc, dec] x 2 in (T), 1 sc (T). Work 4 sc, dec, 1 sc in (W). Work 4 sc, dec, [5 sc, dec] x 2 in (T). (36)
➡️ Round 16: Work 14 sc (T), 6 sc (W), 16 sc (T). (36)
➡️ Round 17: [4 sc, dec] x 6 using only Tan yarn from this point forward. (30)
➡️ Round 18: [3 sc, dec] x 6. (24)
➡️ Round 19: [2 sc, dec] x 6. (18)
Stuff the body firmly, paying special attention to the base of the legs to maintain stability.
The Head
We continue directly from the neck, expanding outward. Here we will execute the asymmetrical shaping for the cheeks.
➡️ Round 20: [2 sc, inc] x 6. (24)
➡️ Round 21: [3 sc, inc] x 6. (30)
➡️ Round 22: [4 sc, inc] x 6. (36)

Fasten off and sew the top cavity closed.
The Arms (Make 2)

➡️ Round 9: sc in each stitch around. (9)
Lightly stuff the bottom half of the arm. Flatten the top opening and sc 4 across to close the seam. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
The Ears (Make 2)
The ears are constructed by layering two flat triangular panels.
➡️ Row 1 (Inner Ear – White): Ch 2, work 3 sc into the 2nd chain from hook. (3)
➡️ Row 2: Ch 1, turn. [inc] in all 3 stitches. (6)
➡️ Row 3: Ch 1, turn. [1 sc, inc] x 3. (9) Fasten off.
➡️ Row 1 to Row 3 (Outer Ear – Tan): Repeat instructions for the Inner Ear, but do not fasten off.
➡️ Round 4 (Assembly): Place the White panel on top of the Tan panel. Insert your hook through both pieces. sc evenly around the two angled sides of the triangle. When you reach the top point, work [sc, ch 1, sc] into the same stitch to create a sharp tip. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
The Carrot Bucket Hat
➡️ Round 1: With Orange yarn, work 8 sc into a MR. (8)
➡️ Round 2: [inc] x 8. (16)
➡️ Round 3: [1 sc, inc] x 8. (24)

➡️ Round 18: [8 sc, inc] x 8. (80)
➡️ Round 19: sc in each stitch around. (80) Fasten off and weave in the end.
➡️ Leaves: With Green yarn, attach to the top center of the hat. Ch 6, sl st down the chain. Repeat this 4 times clustered together. Fasten off.

Assembly
🪡 Eyes: Insert the 14mm safety eyes securely between Rounds 28 and 29 of the head. Space them exactly 9 stitches apart. They must sit completely centered above the cheek expansions.
🪡 Embroidery: Using pink thread, stitch a small “V” shaped nose centered between the eyes on Round 28. Using black thread, stitch three horizontal whiskers on the outer edges of the white facial markings on each side. Add three thick white horizontal accent lines to the front of the orange hat.
🪡 Ears: Sew the open base of each ear securely to the top curve of the head, positioning them so they align perfectly with the holes designed in the hat.
🪡 Arms: Sew the flattened tops of the arms to Round 18 of the body, just below the neck seam, angling them slightly forward.
