Materials & Tools Needed

  • Yarn: Approx. 100–150 yards of DK or Worsted Weight yarn (acrylic blends, wool, or cotton work wonderfully).
  • Crochet Hook: Size US G/6 (4.0 mm) or H/8 (5.0 mm), depending on your yarn choice.
  • Notions: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, and a pair of scissors.
  • Optional: Stitch markers to keep track of your rounds.

Abbreviations & Pattern Notes

  • Ch: Chain
  • St(s): Stitch(es)
  • Sl st: Slip stitch
  • SC: Single crochet
  • HDC: Half double crochet
  • BLO: Back loop only
  • Note: Pattern uses standard US crochet terms.
  • Note: Gloves are worked from the wrist cuff up to the fingers, with a simple chain space left for the thumb opening.

Step-by-Step Pattern Instructions

  1. Step 1: The Cuff. Ch 9. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work 1 SC in each ch across. (8 SC). Turn.

Rows 2–16: Ch 1, working in the BLO, 1 SC in each st across. Turn.

Join the short ends of your ribbing together with a sl st seam to form a circle. Rotate your work to begin working along the edge of the cuff.
  2. Step 2: The Hand Base. Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout). Work HDC evenly around the top edge of the cuff (approx. 24–28 HDC total). Join with a sl st to the first HDC.
  3. Step 3: Main Body & Thumb Opening.

Rounds 1–3: Ch 1, work 1 HDC in each st around. Join with a sl st.

Round 4 (Thumb Hole): Ch 1, HDC in the first few sts, Ch 4, skip 3-4 sts, HDC in remaining sts around. Join with a sl st.

Rounds 5–7: Ch 1, work 1 HDC in each st around (working your HDCs into the chain-4 space just like regular stitches). Join with a sl st.
  4. Step 4: Top Edge & Cuff Finish. Finish off the top edge by working 1 round of slip stitches loosely around the finger opening for a clean, polished look. Fasten off.
  5. Step 5: Repeat. Repeat steps 1 through 4 to create your second glove.

Finishing & Helpful Tips

  • Weave in ends securely: Use your tapestry needle to weave all loose tails into the inside of the ribbing so your gloves stay neat and professional.
  • Check your tension: Gloves need a little bit of stretch! If your stitches feel too tight, try moving up one hook size.
  • Customize the length: Want longer fingerless gloves or a higher wrist cuff? Simply add a few extra rows to the cuff or the body before finishing.
  • Add flair: Feel free to sew a small wooden button or a tiny faux-leather tag onto the cuff for an extra touch of handmade charm!
